Quest is one of the three worship services at First Free Church of St. Louis. We aim to be a place that wherever you are in your spiritual journey a skeptic, an inquirer or a believer that you can find a place here. We want to be a community where people can believe, belong and be transformed by the powerful and compassionate presence of Christ and His people.
Quest is a causal worship environment. We want you to feel at home. You can wear what you want. If shorts are your thing or you love a tie, feel comfortable to wear what you want (no bathing suits please.) So come join us on Sunday morning for a cup of coffee, a donut and a time of worship.
What We Believe
Like most people you probably wonder what does this church believe? Well, Quest is one of the worship services of First Free Church (just smaller, and more casual). First Free Church is part of the First Evangelical Free Church of America. In our denomination churches vary greatly their practice of the core values while holding tightly to biblical truth and most importantly a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Our main website has a list of these central points to give you an idea of our “doctrine”.
Our Leaders
Kevin Hughes (Teaching Pastor)
Who am I? Well, that’s not a difficult question. I am made up of all sorts of experiences, influences, opinions, and convictions. However, I think the most significant thing about me is that I am just one among us all that is created in the image of God, one who has been tragically marred by my own sin and the sins of others, and one who has been pierced by the love of Christ…and that makes all the difference. That sets me on a course of discovering how God wants to transform me (there is a lot to transform), and how He wants to use me to reflect His character to those around me (which is a painfully slow process).
But, a few random facts:
•a Colorado native,
•a California transplant for 23 years (go ‘SC),
•a history buff,
•a sports fan,
•a bit hardheaded,
•I think warm days and cold nights are the best combination,
•I love weather that feels threatening,
•I never want to drive a sedan,
•I look for opportunities to talk with people and avoid my desk if I can,
•and I really want to see people lower the walls in their lives and connect with those around them…..all sorts of people around them…..whoever it is that is around them.
My wife of 25 years (Diane) is a marvel, my kids (Toby, Travis and Tori) expand my perspective on life everyday, and sometimes it is more than I think I can do. They are all gifts to me, and I am thankful.
Alisha Barnard (Program Director)
Debbie Drissell (Volunteer Coordinator)
Deb lives in the Manchester area with her husband Dan and their two cats. She has raised a family of four children, two boys and two girls. She finds humor in so much of life and loves to laugh, but also has a tendency to cry in poignant moments. Look for her at the piano, in her scrapbook room, in the garden or reading a book. If you can’t find her there, look for her at the music store, bookstore, garden shop or maybe Starbucks with a friend.
Debbie has been a part of the Quest community for four years, but has been a member of First Free for more than 20 years. She has served the church in various leadership roles: worship planning, worship leading, shepherding, building community, and teaching.
She is passionate about many things, but a few of those are: spiritual transformation (that is, Christians being transformed to Christ-likeness), helping people find their God-given gifts and empowering them to use them, building relationships, building into people so they see their worth in God alone, worshiping the Lord and helping others to do the same.
Dan Hartke (Worship Leader)
Dan is the Quest worship leader. He is also the worship director for First Free Student Ministries. Dan has been on staff at First Free for 9 years. Dan chose a video bio to tell you a little about himself, Enjoy!
If you’d like to know more about Dan you can find him on Facebook.
